AKA The Simpsons franchise

The Simpsons is an animated sitcom that has been airing since 1989, it was created by Matt Groening for Fox. Unlike many other franchises, the Simpsons did not start with a novel or comic book, instead starting as a series of animated shorts for the Tracy Ullman show. The show is a satire of American life and the sitcoms at the time, with the Simpson family being heavily disfunctioning. I have chosen the Simpsons because not a huge amount of people will be doing it.

Interesting facts I found while researching:

THE SIMPSONS – SERIES 1

The main Simpsons show is the largest part of the franchise, it first aired in 1989, just like the show having no main character it is not intended for a particular demographic however it does appeal to US families with children that are in social brackets C1 or C2 as y can relate to the character in the show. The main goal of the show is to entertain. The product is appealing to families as they can relate to the family dynamic of the show.

THE SIMPSONS - SERIES 33

The Simpsons has been criticized recently as many believe the more recent episodes to be worse in quality and making characters less dynamic and more 1 dimensional. The target audience, however, hasn’t changed since the 1st series being mainly US families with children.

The simpsons has changed it’s target audience since the start of it’s run, it used to be making fun of the standard, now in its 33rd season it has become the standard, however I don’t think the target audience has changed, instead the target audience has become the majority.

The Simpsons movie

The Simpsons movie was a feature film based on the Simpsons that was released in 2007, it has much more of a plot than the regular episodes but still is humorous in nature, in the film, the Environmental protection Agency covers Springfield in a giant dome. The film is aimed at fans of the show, however it’s slightly more adult being rated PG.

Bartman

Bar‰tman was a comic book series that lasted from 1993 to 1995, it was targeted at a younger audience of boys from 7-15 who are fans of comics, featuring Bart as an obvious main character. The comics follow Bart's alter ego, Bartman doing superhero things. A possible secondary audience could be adults who are fans of comics, similar to comic book guy from the Simpsons. The purpose is entertainment and profit. The product meets the needs of the target audience by being entertaining.

Summer Shindig

Summer shindig is a newer annual comic that ran from 2007 to 2013, it has a more general audience than Bartman as it doesn’t focus on a particular character however it is a comic and so would be towards a younger audience.

The Simpsons (arcade game)

The Simpsons arcade game was a game published by Konami in 1991, it consists of up to 4 players controlling members of the Simpson family as they try to rescue Maggie, fighting various enemies along the way. The game targets young children and other arcade-goers with its gameplay, in 2021 however, the game has a new audience of retro gaming fans. The game’s main purpose is to make money and entertain people. The product meets the needs of the target audience by entertaining them.

The Simpsons hit and run

The Simpsons hit and run is a game released for many systems in 2003, it’s similar to grand theft auto in its gameplay however much less violent and graphic, you can play as many characters in the Simpsons family and complete different objectives, you can also just roam around. The target audience is fans of the show and gaming, the marketing and game itself are likely aimed at children but not exclusively.

The target audience of these 2 games hasn't really changed.
